An herbal blend to maintain optimum health with physiological support

An eclectic medicine is developing for the global village of earth. This eclectic medicine is just beginning to develop an identity by experimenting with the old and the new to find ways that can best heal the world of today. These ways represent a broad base of philosophies, models of the body and universe, medicines and healing methods.
~ Frank Cook, Plants & Healers of India and Nepal

This international blend of tonic tinctures contains:

Ashwaganda (Withania somnifera), Referred to as Indian ginseng.
Cook says, It is a rejuvenating herb. It is good in general for immunity and energy, (research being done in Paris for AIDS/HIV patients) Promotes mental calmness. Chanchal Cabrera at the 4th Annual Herb Business Gateway Conference indicated that over the last twelve years she has recommended this to her patients. She likes to use this plant when people are sluggish and out of balance. Helps chronic fatigue in a low grade condition that can spoil the quality of life, where there is sickness but you can not identify the illness because you just do not feel good.

Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus), Major Chinese herb called Huang-qi.
Steven Foster and Yue Chongxi, Herbal Emissaries — Huang-qi was listed in the superior class of herbs in the 2,000-year-old classic, Shin Nong Ben Cao Jing. This is one of the superior tonic roots in traditional Chinese medicines. Huang-qi with Asian ginseng is a well-known Chinese herbal prescription as a tonic for fatigue and general debility.

Functions: Invigorates vital energy (qi/ch’I), strengthens the body’s superficial resistance, promotes tissue regeneration, promotes diuresis, suppurates poisons, drains pus, reduces swelling.

Uses: Haung-qi is used in prescriptions for shortness of breath and palpitation, lack of physical strength. No toxic side effects have been reported.

Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica), Creeping tropical plant of India, Sri Lanka, Africa, and Malaysia. Tim Blakley, Medicinal Herbs in the Garden, Field & Marketplace — Guto Kola as been used in Ayurveda medicine for centuries. This plant has numerous medicinal uses including reducing inflammation, healing wounds, balancing the nervous system and improving memory. Most of the dry herb comes from India and is harvested in waste ditches there and often has a high bacterial level, ash level and other impurities. Frank Cook states “used as a brain tonic and helps one to sleep”.

American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolium), a native perennial to North America. Grows in deep, moist loamy coves of the mountains throughout the eastern half of North America.

Linda G. Rector-Page, Healthy Healing: An Alternative Healing Reference — Ginseng is the most effective adaptogen of all tonic herbs. It is beneficial to total health and capable of stimulating both long and short-term energy. Ginseng has measurable amounts of germanium, provides energy to all body systems, promotes regeneration from stress and fatigue, and rebuilds foundation strength. American ginseng is useful as stimulants for brain and memory centers. A central nervous system stimulant that also enhances improved sleep.

W. Scott Persons, American Ginseng: Green Gold — The Russian pharmacologist Dr. I.I. Brekhman, makes the following claims for ginseng based on 25 years of laboratory experimentation. (1) Ginseng stimulates both physical and mental activity, especially in tired or weak patients, (2) Ginseng strengthens and protects the human organism when undergoing severe or prolonged physical strain, (3) Ginseng stimulates and improves the work of the brain cells without the side effects of other stimulants, like caffeine, and (4) Ginseng stimulates the functions of the endocrine glands, including sex glands.

Stinging Nettles (Urtica dioica), Perennial plant
Steven Foster/James A. Duke, Medicinal Plants: Eastern/Central — Traditionally, leaf tea used in Europe as a “blood purifier”, “blood builder” and is used for poor circulation. Its effect involves the action of the white blood cells, aiding coagulation and formation of hemoglobin in red blood corpuscles. Nettle leaves are rich in iron.

Maca (Cerro de Paca), Peruvian ginseng
Frank Cook, In Search of Plants & Healers of Peru and Ecuador — Maca is used in the northern Andes for potency and strength. It is a tonic that is usually made into a tea and drunk daily. It would have a lot of similar uses to American ginseng.
